Table Tennis Balls: Training and Tournament

Table tennis balls primarily differ in quality and intended use. For casual training, a simple ball is sufficient, but competitions require certified tournament quality.

Understanding the Star Rating

The star rating indicates quality:

• Training ballsare robust and affordable, ideal for robots, club training, and bulk use.
• 1- and 2-star ballsare in the mid-range for regular play.
• 3-star ballsare the highest quality level and approved for tournaments. They have the most uniform roundness and most consistent bounce behavior.

Plastic instead of Celluloid

Modern balls are made of plastic (Poly) and have expanded the former standard to 40+ mm. This is now the common standard for clubs and tournaments. Celluloid balls are practically no longer used.

White or Orange?

Both colors are tournament-approved. The choice depends on hall lighting and background; many clubs use both.
